Life as a Microscopic Worm

by Alex
My name is Alex. I spent almost my whole life floating on the skin of a man called Greg. I was not the only creature on Greg's skin. There were bugs bigger than me and bugs smaller than me.

To move, I had to wiggle my body. I could not move very fast.

One day I could hear Greg talking to someone. I could not make out the words, but I knew he and the other person were talking.

Suddenly, Greg's hand pushed me off his skin. I fell onto Greg's dog. As I landed, I saw the dog's ear. I fell onto the hard skin of the dog. Everything looked different from Greg's skin. There were weird looking bugs with one eye and no legs. Some of them were transparent.

I was the only worm in the skin area of the dog's body. I was never hungry or thirsty, because, anyway, I had no mouth. Somehow, I got tangled up in the hair of the dog and I could not move. I could do nothing but stay there forever!

Some questions to ponder...

1. Were the bugs Swiss bugs or Zimbabwean bugs?
2. How often does Greg bathe?
3. What do you think Greg was saying?
4. To whom do you think he was talking?
5. What kind of dog is Shukie?
6. Since you were the only one of your kind on the dog, were you lonely?
7. How long is "forever"?
